Thursday, Feb 15, 2018. Day 22 of our snowbird vacation.

Finally,   a sunny warm day!

We had to get up early to drive down to Georgetown to make the pontoon ride to Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center. We tried to see this last year, but the reservations were all filled up - I made these in November. It's free but extremely popular - we couldn't take Tommy & Neesie, so we left them on their own for the day.

TYWC is a huge island - 20, 000 acres and it includes marshes, wetlands forests and beaches.

It's home to hundreds of species of wildlife and is a habitat for migratory birds, eagles, alligators and other endangered species. Despite being a multimillionaire who owned the RedSox and lived in fancy hotels while in Boston, Yawkey preferred to stay in Georgetown for 6 months out of the year.

When his modest home on the island burned down, he had a trailer brought in and ended up living in it until his death.

There are stories about how racist he was, but they don't seem to jive with the stories we heard about all the good he did in South Carolina.

Today was one of the highlights of our snowbird vacation!
