Thursday, Feb 1, 2018. Day 8 of our snowbird vacation.
After breakfast Angie & I headed out to Columbia for the game between the South Carolina women and the UConn women.
Angie doesn't like to ride on highways, so we took the back roads to Columbia. By the time we got to Turbeville, it was time for lunch. There were limited options, so we stopped at the "Chat n Chew". The place didn't look like much on the outside, but the food was surprisingly good - old timey southern cooking. We both ordered a lunch "special" and could not finish our meals. But of course we had room to share an apple pie ala mode. Our reasoning was that there would be limited options at the game.
After lunch it took us another two hours to get to Columbia. The hotel - Courtyard by Marriott - was located right on campus.
The game was a showcase for the Huskies. They got a big lead early and though S.C. made a run after halftime, they never got it below 20. It was a great venue for college basketball.
After the game, a lot of S.C. fans saw our hats and t shirts and complimented the UConn women - they wish that their team will get where UConn is (oh yeah - South Carolina won it all last year!)
On the way back to the hotel, I sat in the front seat of the van. This fat guy who had sat there on the way down to the arena made a snide remark. I lit into him when we got off the van - I told him that he had no idea what I had been through with my cancer, spine surgery, and titanium rods. The only thing wrong with him was he was fat. He didn't quite know what to say. I figured if he had no problem being rude, I would have no problem telling him off.
The rest of the evening was uneventful - we watched the "Bill and Bill" 30 for 30. It was a great episode.
