Thursday, Mar 28, 2018. Day 35 of our snowbird vacation.

A sunny but cool day. Where did February go?

After breakfast we took off for Oak Island, NC to visit our friends Tim & Elaine Hunt. Tim & Elaine were Angie's neighbors before I met her, and have been friends of both of us ever since.

They have a nice cottage a few blocks from the ocean. I guess it might be considered small by today's standards, but it has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, more than enough for visiting kids and grandkids.

We got there about 11 AM and left at 4:00 PM, but the time flew by.

In between, Elaine made a wonderful lunch.

It was a great day!

The last winter weekend 2018 at Myrtle is coming up!

Wednesday, Feb 28, 2018. Day 34 of our snowbird vacation.

Another rainy and cool day.

Angie went to water aerobics and I did my back stretches followed by a soak in the hot tub.It would have been a good day to go to the movies but we couldn't find a movie we were interested in playing in Myrtle Beach.

Angie did laundry and read and I worked on my Polish and read.We get TCM and we watched part of "Mame".

After dinner Angie went to Snowbird cards and I stayed in and watched "Bridge over the River Kwai" - a pretty good movie.

A lot of the snowbirds are heading home (we are leaving Myrtle Beach for Beufort on Monday).

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and we're going to visit Tim & Elaine Hunt - some old Raleigh friends in Oak Island Beach, NC.

Tuesday, Feb 27, 2018. Day 33 of our snowbird vacation.

A sunny but cool & windy day - a good day to hit the road exploring.

Angie went to her exercise class in the morning, and I did my back exercises and then soaked in the hot tub.

We realized that we had not had any southern barbecue yet, so we headed over to Little Pigs for lunch. Sorry northern barbecue joints, the real stuff is made down south!

We then took a ride to see what's in Socastee (nothing) and ended up at Surfside beach. It's a nice little beachside community.

We had to take a picture of the pier.

After dinner in our room we went to snowbird bingo.  Angie loves to play cards and bingo and I don't, but I went because dessert was served!

Tomorrow it's supposed to rain so maybe we'll find a movie.

Monday, Feb 26, 2018. Day 32 of our snowbird vacation.

That urinary issue involving blood reappeared on Sunday, but this time Angie & I figured out the cause. I looked online and looked at my INR levels since surgery, and they were usually around 2.0. On Feb 3rd (the first occurance of hematuria) my INR was 3.6; the ER doctor told me to stop the warfarin while I was on an antibiotic. When I resumed the warfarin my INR level gradually rose again and the hematuria reoccurred. I called my cardiologist and they adjusted my warfarin doses, In the meantime I ate a few salads and the vitamin K helped stop  the blood. You have to be resourceful when you're away from home!

By the time this was resolved it started raining so we just hung out at the hotel.

That night we went next door for a snowbird dinner at Martin's restaurant, It was good and we made some new friends.

I guess if you're a bit older and your vacation is long enough a health issue might happen. But we kept our cool  and figured it out. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny so we'll be doing something outdoors.

Sunday, Feb 25, 2018. Day 31 of our snowbird vacation.

A day of rest.

We went to church in the morning, and then had lunch in our room.

We went outside and sat in the afternoon sun for a little while.

We watched a good show about John Lewis, then the second half or the UConn Men. At least the Huskies aren't involved in the latest NCAA scandal!

Angie made us a nice dinner and we watched the Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

A good day to recharge our batteries.

Saturday, Feb 24, 2018. Day 30 of our snowbird vacation.

Day 30 - where has our vacation gone?

We decided to take a ride up to Conway to see a baseball game once the fog burned off. We found a neat route that avoided  route 501 and had us on the campus of Coastal Carolina in a half hour.

The baseball complex is very nice - a baseball field rivalling minor league stadiums and a really nice softball stadium.

We got some great seats behind home plate for $15.

The general admission seats are on grassy hills in left field and right field.

It was a great day for baseball - sunny and in the high 70's (in February!). The Chanticleers lost to Illinois, but we won't hesitate to come to another game in future winter visits to Myrtle Beach.

Friday, Feb 23, 2018. Day 29 of our snowbird vacation.

The day started off foggy so Angie went to water aerobics and I did my back exercises and then soaked in the hot tub.

After lunch the sun came out and we drove up to North Myrtle Beach and did some exploring.

We stopped at the Cherry Grove fishing pier. We didn't fish, but it was a great day to just relax and soak up some up some rays. We watched the fishers and the surfers.

We also stopped by the Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve. Marshes are one of our favorite places to visit and we are amazed at the number of preserved marshes all along the Grand Strand.

Later on we went to St Andrew's Church for the Friday night Lenten fish fry.

All in all, it was another nice day.

Thursday, Feb 22, 2018. Day 28 of our snowbird vacation.

It was another beautiful sunny day, and we decided to hit the road right after breakfast.

We drove up to Little River, SC - a town that we've driven through several times but never stopped to see why they called it Little River.

We did find a small "restaurant row"  where you could see the river (actually the Intercoastal waterway) but a lot of the waterfront is privately owned.

We drove up to Calabash and had lunch at Ella's (Tommie & Neesie had eaten there the day we went to Tom Yawkey Wildlife refuge) and it didn't disappoint  (great shrimp sandwiches).

We then drove up to Sunset Beach in Calabash and it was gorgeous.

On our way back down Highway 179 we stopped in Vereen Gardens in Little River and finally got some nice views of the "Little River" (Intercoastal waterway).

That night we had reservations at the Culinary Instititute of Myrtle beach. The meal consisted of 6 courses of some very interesting student creations.

All in all, this was one of our funnest days at Myrtle Beach.

Wednesday, Feb 21, 2018. Day 27 of our snowbird vacation.

It's supposed to be sunny and warm again today.

Angie took her water aerobics class and I went for a walk on the beach and then a soak in the hot tub.

After lunch we were supposed to take a ride up to Little River and/or Calabash. But I did not sleep that well the night before, so Angie we up to the Tanger outlets while I took a two hour nap. When Angie got back, we sat on our balcony for a while, but curiosity got the best of us so we went down to the pool to watch the painters as they were working right above our room.

The painting crew has been working real hard. They're about to turn the corner and work on the front.

It was a nice day to be outside. We'll make another attempt to get to Little River tomorrow!.

Tuesday, Feb 20, 2018. Day 26 of our snowbird vacation.

Finally a sunny day (once the early morning fog wore off).

Angie went to her country line dancing class (outside on the volleyball court) and her bone building class. I did my back stretches, my back exercises, and soaked in the hot tub.

After lunch we drove down to Pauley's Island. You don't get to see much of it from Highway 17 - you have to take a side road and drive over the causeway - it's very beautiful.

We spent most of the afternoon at Pawley's and then sat on the back deck and just enjoyed the day.

We went out by the pool and watched the painters work on the outside of the building. They're doing a nice job, but I could not work on that scaffolding.

Tomorrow's supposed to be another nice day - we're thing of a field trip  to Little River and Calabash.

Sunday,  Feb 18, 2018. Day 25 of our snowbird vacation
Another cloudy, cool & windy day. These days don't motivate you to do much!

We slept in and then we went to 11:00 Mass. St Andrew's Church is full at this Mass - lots of Yankee snowbirds!

After Mass we drove to K&W for Lunch. It was nice to see it packed - maybe it will hang on for years to come.

We did a little food shopping and then went back to the hotel. We weren't motivated to do anything so we didn't. We caught up on reading.

Next week is supposed to be 70's every day, so I imagine we'll be venturing out again.
