Myrtle Beach 2017 Day 36 Thursday

We spent most of the last day of our "Month in Myrtle" driving the back roads  between Greenville NC and Myrtle Beach.  We got back to the hotel and packed for our flight home the next day.

It's been quite an adventure. We saw: the Shag Festival in North Myrtle Beach and the Murrell's Inlet Marsh Walk in January. In February we visited  Georgetown, Conway, Brookgreen Gardens, Raleigh, Hobcaw Barony, Catawba, Lincolnton and Greenville.  We visited family (the Cato's and Komas's) and friends (Coach, Melba, Steve and the Hunt's). We learned how to do the shag better, met a lot of fellow "Snow Birds" and friendly locals. And as we usually do, we've had a few of those out of the ordinary moments - meeting the people inside the Genesis Restaurant was probably the best one. There are still a lot of things to see and do in Myrtle Beach but we just ran out of time.

Imagine if I had felt better when we first came down!

It's time to go home - we are really missing our family. But we leave with a lot of great memories and we hope to return next February.

Myrtle Beach 2017 Day 35 Wednesday, CNTD

I forgot to mention that our lives flashed before us yesterday. We were stopped at a red light a couple of miles from our hotel in Greenville.

Behind us a small car changed lanes and was hit by a much larger car. It was so loud that it sounded  like it happened right behind us, but it was two or three car lengths away (still a little too close for comfort).

We could see that a few cars stopped to help, so when the light changed we drove on. Hopefully nobody got hurt too badly...

Myrtle Beach 2017 Day 35 Wednesday

Angie & I left for Greenville, NC about mid morning. And to keep Angie happy, we once again drove back roads so it took a while.

Once you pass through towns, a lot of Eastern NC is very open - a lot like it was when I was an NC State student some 40 years ago.

We went to the UConn/East Carolina basketball game that night.

It was Senior night and it was kind of embarrassing for the ECU players - the arena was half empty.

It was a good game, but UConn lost - our teams were 1 and 3 during our Myrtle Beach vacation. And the team that won was Coastal Carolina - our new favorite Myrtle Beach team. Go Chanticleers!

Myrtle Beach 2017 Day 34 Tuesday
Angie & I spent a second straight day taking it easy. As I mentioned yesterday, we had been going along at a pretty good pace and just wanted to recharge prior to our last "field trip" (a short trip to Greenville to see the UConn men play East Carolina). We thought about doing something but kept saying "nah".

We ate in the room (we have to "eat down" the little bit of food we have left). We took a nice long walk on the beach. The temperature was in the high 70's and there we actually some people in the water (water temps around 60 - no thanks!). We packed for Greenville.

That night we watched some old sitcoms on TV land. Then we watched the presidential speech to Congress.

It's time to go home soon.
